Today is Employee Appreciation Day, an often-overlooked event that has recently risen to the top of every business owner's priority list. The global pandemic prompted what has come to be regarded as "The Great Resignation," where a record number of workers resigned, many in pursuit of better job opportunities. With every company aiming to hire and keep exceptional employees, BFC has compiled a list of five ways that firms may celebrate their staff throughout the year.
Conversation Culture
Employees want to feel appreciated at work. Creating an environment where their ideas are received with enthusiasm and their opinions are acknowledged is an excellent way to achieve that validation. Never underestimate the importance of sincerity and inclusion. As a leader, you can create a positive working atmosphere that anyone would be happy to be a part of if you demonstrate that every voice at every level matters.
Growth Opportunities
Investing in your employees' future is the best way to show them that you care. Make it clear to employees that their professional development is essential to you, and that you're willing to invest in them by providing educational, networking, and mentorship opportunities. Meaningful and sustainable growth can be achieved through providing development opportunities that are centered on short and long-term goals, cater to the needs and interests of workers at all levels and tenures, and are accessible to all. Access to coaching, shadowing, seminars, and webinars could be included.
Employee Appreciation Rewards Program
Having a defined goal to strive towards will almost always result in success. Implementing a rewards program that provides incentives to employees for their efforts is an excellent approach to boosting productivity, engagement, and retention. And who doesn't enjoy a little friendly competition? There could be a wide range of prizes available, including gift cards, corporate swag, a free meal, or even an extra 15 minutes for lunch.
Celebrate Professional and Personal Achievements
Employees will know that their organization values them and their contributions to the success of their team and the company as a whole when they receive recognition. So, even if it's only a post on your company's social media accounts, take the time to recognize hardworking employees and promotions. Don't stop there, though. Birthdays, anniversaries, and significant life events should all be celebrated.
Team Building
Creating possibilities for team building builds trust, mitigates conflict, encourages communication, and increases collaboration. Provide a peer mentorship option. Having a mentor provides essential one-on-one training for junior professionals. Not only with practical job skills but also with behavioral and cultural ones. Make time outside of work to get your coworkers together for a fun team-building activity. This allows them to let off steam without feeling pressured to perform. It will also allow team members to appreciate one other on a deeper level.
Employee Appreciation Day is a worthwhile event to mark on your calendar, but it only comes once a year. Everyone wants to be a part of a working culture that makes employees feel appreciated every day, so take the time to recognize the people who have contributed to your company's success often. You'll notice an improvement in your productivity and in your relationships with your employees.
